A large part of Alvin’s practice involves work for corporates. Besides general corporate work, he provides services in various niche corporate legal areas such as Trade, Environment, Health & Safety, Consumer Protection and Employment law.
He is also passionate about matters affecting the individual. He hence provides services for individuals in employment matters, tribunal claims preparation, as well as estate planning, and probate and administration.
He believes strongly in legal education so that you are empowered to make informed decisions. That is why he prioritises your legal understanding when he works with you. He takes legal training seriously hence he dedicates significant resources to make sure your employees get the right training at the right time on the right topics. He also conducts dedicated workshops for corporates investing in group legal learning.

About Alvin’s experience
Alvin Tan Yong Joon holds a Bachelor of Business Management (BBM) and a Juris Doctor (J.D.) law degree from the Singapore Management University (SMU).
Before completing his J.D. in 2013, Alvin spent several years at a central ministry under the Prime Minister's Office, where he became well-acquainted with the thinking and workings of the Singapore Government. After completing his J.D., Alvin practised primarily as a regulatory lawyer in a spectrum of niche legal areas. Prior to joining Kith & Kin Law Corporation, he was Partner in a Big-4 law firm in Singapore, where his main areas of practice comprised niche legal areas such as Trade, Environment, Health & Safety, Consumer Protection and Employment law.
Since 2022, he is also Adjunct Lecturer at the SMU, where he has been recognised for teaching excellence as an industry practitioner. In 2023 and 2024, he was awarded the Dean’s Teaching Honour by the SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business. In 2024, he received the highly competitive Outstanding Adjunct Award from SMU.
He has also conducted legal training for small to large enterprises on a variety of legal topics, in conjunction with the Singapore Business Federation. He consistently receives outstanding participant feedback for his trainings.

He is appointed an Assessor by the Ministry of Law to the Panel of Assessors for COVID-19 Temporary Relief.
He is an appointed member of the Law Society of Singapore’s Small Law Firms Committee.
He is an appointed member of the Law Society of Singapore’s Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Committee.
He is an appointed Mentor in the Law Society of Singapore’s Mentorship Scheme. He is also a volunteer Mentor in the SMU Alumni Mentoring Programme.
